Residential landscaping designed to last

Barratt Homes is a residential property developer working in partnership with Southern Housing to deliver high-quality new build developments across the South.

The challenge

Barratt Homes needed landscaping that would look strong at handover and continue to perform for years to come.

With several developments underway, Barratt Homes needed planting that would establish properly, suit their site, and avoid the cost and disruption of replacing failed plants later on.

Too often, new-build planting looks good on paper but struggles once it’s in the ground — leading to extra work, extra cost, and problems after handover.

Our approach

Countrywide were appointed by Barratt Homes to support the delivery of high-quality external environments across its residential developments.

Rather than focusing solely on appearance at handover, we worked with Barratt Homes to ensure planting schemes were suited to their sites, established reliably, and remained practical and cost-effective to manage as developments matured.

By engaging early and working collaboratively with Barratt Homes’ project teams, we helped reduce delivery risk, improve plant survival, and create landscapes designed to perform well long after construction was complete.

The solution

Countrywide reviewed the proposed landscaping plans with Barratt Homes before installation.

We identified planting that was unlikely to perform well in the site conditions and recommended more suitable alternatives. This reduced the risk of plant failure, improved establishment, and avoided issues once sites moved from construction to occupation.

Alongside delivering the soft landscaping, Countrywide provided practical input to ensure schemes were easy to maintain over time, supporting consistent site standards and long-term cost control.

The results

  • Planting schemes that established successfully and performed as intended on site

  • Reduced need for replacements and remedial works after handover

  • Lower long-term maintenance costs and fewer ongoing issues

  • A smoother transition from build phase to managed landscape

  • External environments that continue to mature and perform as developments are occupied

Ongoing relationship

Countrywide continues to work in partnership with Barratt across multiple residential developments, providing planned landscaping and grounds maintenance support.

The ongoing relationship is built on early engagement, clear communication, and long-term maintenance planning. This allows Barratt Homes to maintain consistent external standards across sites, manage costs effectively, and address issues before they impact operations.

As Barratt Homes’ development pipeline progresses, Countrywide supports scalable delivery and the ongoing care of sites as they move from construction into established communities.
